Optimizing Waste Management in Oil Processing: Innovations in Bleaching Earth and Soapstock Treatment

Optimizing Waste Management in Oil Processing: Innovations in Bleaching Earth and Soapstock Treatment

Jan 07, 2026

In the world of oil processing, maximizing efficiency and reducing waste are paramount. Our approach at Ocean to create eco-friendly solutions has led us to develop advanced treatment technologies specifically designed for managing spent bleaching earth and soapstock generated during oil refining. By integrating these innovations into our oil manufacturing plants, we ensure not only operational efficiency but also a commitment to sustainability.

Tailored Solutions for Spent Bleaching Earth Treatment

At Ocean, we recognize that oil processing plants often grapple with managing the byproducts of oil extraction and refining processes, particularly spent bleaching earth. This material can pose significant ecological challenges if not handled properly. Our technology enhances the treatment of spent bleaching earth, allowing it to be reused or repurposed. By optimizing the filtration process and using specialized machinery designed for this purpose, we reduce the environmental impact associated with disposing of spent materials. The result is a cleaner process that aligns with our goal of zero waste.

Efficient and Eco-Friendly Soapstock Treatment Technology

Soapstock, a high-moisture byproduct generated during the oil chemical refining process, presents significant challenges for disposal and environmental compliance. Ocean has developed a proprietary, eco-friendly and pollution-free Soapstock Utilization Technology that transforms this waste into valuable resources, ensuring a closed-loop, sustainable production cycle.

Our patented process utilizes small molecule organic acids to react with soapstock under normal temperature and pressure. This safe and reliable reaction produces acidified oil (upper layer) and an aqueous solution containing organic acid salts (lower layer). The acidified oil is further refined into high-quality biodiesel or lipid chemical raw materials, with key specifications such as Acid Value ≥120 mgKOH/g. The aqueous phase is neutralized and can be concentrated to produce liquid sodium acetate (content ≥20%), a highly effective carbon source favored by wastewater treatment plants.

This technology delivers decisive advantages by directly converting a costly waste stream into a profitable revenue source. By processing soapstock in-house, producers can generate significant additional profit, while simultaneously eliminating environmental risks and supply chain dependencies associated with third-party disposal. Proven in commercial applications and backed by numerous national patents, Ocean's solution ensures full resource utilization, regulatory compliance, and enhanced operational security.

Revolutionizing Waste Reduction Strategies

The commitment to sustainability and efficiency goes beyond just treating individual waste products. At Ocean, we believe in holistic waste reduction strategies that are integrated into our oil processing plants. By employing methods like waste heat recovery and water wash recycling, we optimize the entire production line. These cutting-edge techniques ensure that we minimize resource consumption while maximizing output. The synergy of these processes contributes to a more resource-efficient operation that supports our zero-waste objectives.

Striving for a Sustainable Future

The future of oil processing lies in innovation that prioritizes sustainability. Ocean is dedicated to embedding environmentally-friendly technologies into our oil manufacturing plants. Our comprehensive waste management strategies not only enhance operational efficiency but also pave the way for a greener industry. By committing to advanced treatment of spent bleaching earth and soapstock, we aim to set a benchmark for reduced waste in oil processing. At Ocean, we envision a future where our commitment to sustainability reshapes the landscape of oil production.
